What Does GSM Mean?
GSM stands for Grams per Square Metre — a measure of paper weight. The higher the GSM, the heavier and thicker the paper. For prescription pads, you'll typically choose between 70 GSM and 90 GSM.
70 GSM Paper — Standard Choice
70 GSM is the most commonly used paper weight for prescription pads in India. It is the same weight as standard office printer paper.
Pros of 70 GSM
- ✅ More affordable (significant saving for bulk orders)
- ✅ Lighter — pads are less bulky
- ✅ Standard look and feel that most patients are familiar with
- ✅ Works well with both ball-point and gel pens
Cons of 70 GSM
- ❌ Slightly thinner — ink can occasionally show through on the back
- ❌ Less premium feel
90 GSM Paper — Premium Choice
90 GSM paper is noticeably thicker and heavier than 70 GSM. It gives your prescription pad a more premium, professional feel.
Pros of 90 GSM
- ✅ Premium, substantial feel — makes a strong impression
- ✅ Better ink resistance — no bleed-through
- ✅ More durable — less likely to tear or crumple
- ✅ Works excellently with all pen types including felt-tip
Cons of 90 GSM
- ❌ Slightly more expensive
- ❌ Pads are a bit heavier and thicker
Price Difference
For 10 pads of A5 multi-color: 70 GSM costs ₹1,500 while 90 GSM costs ₹1,600 — a difference of just ₹100. For most doctors, the premium feel of 90 GSM is worth the small extra cost.
Our Recommendation
If you want the best value: go with 70 GSM. If you want your prescription pad to feel high quality and make a strong impression on patients: choose 90 GSM. The ₹100 difference for 10 pads is negligible for most clinics.
